Helping Men And Women Combat Poverty And Find Meaningful Work

2019 JfL "McCoy-Mangum Legacy" Award Winner: Charles Cheek

At the 2019 Jobs for Life "Labor Day for Dignity" event (Sept 2019), several JfL leaders, volunteers, and graduates were honored for their service and dedication to the community. One specific award, the "McCoy-Mangum Legacy Award" was given to Charles Cheek for his display of exemplary leadership that embodies beloved community, selfless desire to see others flourish, and efforts to continue the legacy of Jobs for Life’s original founders, Pastor Donald McCoy and Chris Mangum.

Charles has been involved with Jobs for Life for over 4 years, specifically leading as a City Network Catalyst in the Hampton Roads area, and has been a major influence in starting several JfL sites in the area. His passion for economic and social justice is evident in his tireless work in the community, where he also co-facilitates a monthly pastors dialogue on racism, poverty and violence, facilitates a circle of reconciliation for mothers of murdered children, coordinates the Hampton Roads Christian Community Development Network, and is involved in numerous activities to empower members of his community. We are thankful for Charles' ongoing service and dedication through Jobs for Life in his community!
