Laquita Dunn, Into The Neighborhood (Richmond, VA)
(Note: The following letter was written by Laquita Dunn, who shares about her experience in a Jobs for Life class and ongoing discipleship classes at the Richmond City Justice Center. You can view the original hand-written note here). The leaders, in response to Laquita’s letter, added, “This is why we do what we do in the Richmond City Justice Center. It's about relationships!!!”
Wow! I don’t even know where to begin. Yes, I do! First and foremost I thank God for choosing me and for giving me yet another chance to choose Him. For putting me in a place where I could listen to Him speak to me and amazingly He did that through the women I met on this spiritual journey that these classes took me through.
I have learned to love people just because it’s what God asks of me. Developing some patience and humility that I definitely tried to resist. I’ve learned how to read my Bible and understand what I read by re-reading, taking notes, and asking questions.
Doing some Bible study and praying with and for others have been rituals that I developed from taking these classes. But most of all, I have learned how to forgive myself and others and love myself in spite of my character defects, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s likeness.
