Hope on the Hill is a 501C3 Nonprofit that provides services in the areas of education, food, financial resources, and community partnerships. Our education programs provide math and reading literacy, job readiness and preparation for the hiring process, English as a second language and computer literacy. We have structured our employability program to be able to serve individuals currently incarcerated and on probation as well as any community member that would like support to gain a competitive edge in the job market. The community garden grows in 2500 square feet of space to provide sustainably raised produce to the community twice a week during the growing season at no charge. We have 300 square foot plots available to community members, a dynamic children’s garden class and summer program as well as providing space to Discovery Zone preschool and daycare for their educational purposes. Our food pantry is open on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings and is the only pantry open during non-business hours to all Yamhill County Residents. In 2015 volunteers worked over 2900 hours to provide 9142 emergency food boxes. This year we had enough initial funding to provide thanksgiving dinners to 150 families but with a huge increase in expressed need, we were able to raise enough money to serve all 197 families who asked. Tree of Hope was able to serve 350 families this year and did not have to turn anyone away. The financial resources committee reviews applications and offers financial assistance and access to information and community resources. The three programs administered by the financial resource committee is are community resources, Church on the Hill Benevolence and Kathy’s Hope, Where Awareness Meets Action. The community program provides financial support to those with an expressed need via gas vouchers, bus passes and grocery store gift cards. Additionally, we provide bus passes to the Yamhill Union Gospel Rescue Mission and Provoking Hope. Kathy’s Hope provides financial assistance to women and families impacted by breast cancer. Through collaboration with Church on the Hill, we provide administration and policy support to their benevolence program which utilizes designated funds to provide financial assistance to their church attendees. Seasonal ministries focus on complete Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas gifts and clothing to families. We do not ask for any qualifying criteria and aim to serve all who express a need. Tree of Hope, our gift program collaborates with Salvation Army, Church on the Hill, Angel Tree, and Yamhill County Foster Care Program. Community collaborations focus on supporting other agency and community programs and to partner with businesses that need assistance to make an impact. Kathy’s Hope and Church on the Hill benevolence are both examples of this as well as Operation Backpack and C-WISH. Thus far in 2014 twenty-seven volunteers worked to allow us to open our doors during inclement weather three nights and we had 41 lodgings. All individuals who stay in the shelter are given hot showers, food, additional coats, blankets, hats, inclement weather and survival items and food to take with them in the morning.
