Ransom Ministries Inc

Ransom Ministries, Inc. was founded by Matt and Tara Armbruster in October of 2010. In January of that year, they attended a Bible study at their church entitled, “If you want to walk on water, then you’ve got to get out of the boat!” The study urged Christians to stop playing church and start living a life of true faith and total dependence on God. The Armbrusters prayed and sought what God wanted them to do. They asked Him to show them His specific purpose and how they could use the gifts He had given them to bring honor and glory to Him. God gave Matt the idea of a café where anyone could come get a hot meal and pay whatever they could afford. Tara received the word “Ransom” and the scripture Matthew 20:28. When they began to dissect this bible verse, they discovered the greek word that is translated “to serve” actually meant one that waits on tables while “ransom” meant to liberate many from misery. God continued to confirm His plan for them, and they opened the first Ransom Café at the Hangar of West Mobile Baptist Church. Four years later, there are six Ransom Café locations in different areas of our community hosted by churches of various denominations that serve an average of 450 meals each week. Since that time, God has expanded Ransom Ministries to include additional projects. The ministry currently operates and maintains two community gardens. Ransom also utilizes a custom built 22 foot trailer called the ‘Clean Machine’ that has two bathrooms, three washing machines and three dryers to allow people in need to shower and launder their clothes. In the first year, 941 loads of laundry have been washed and had 766 people have taken showers in the Clean Machine. Ransom relies almost solely on volunteer members of the community. Volunteers serve an average of 300 hours per week at the Cafes which serve both Mobile and Baldwin counties. These volunteers are an integral component of the ministry. They not only assist in the day-to-day functions of Ransom Ministry, but also help to show Christ’s love by serving others.
