Part 1 of 2: A Conversation with Dr. Anderson Spickard and James Butler
Dr. Anderson Spickard, a medical doctor with over 40 years of experience in addiction medicine and James Butler, a recovering addict, join forces to discuss the issue of addiction that impacts each and every one of us in some way. Together with Barbara Thompson they wrote an insightful book, The Craving Brain: Science, Spirituality and a Pathway to Recovery, to help take the science behind addiction and bring it to life.
In this podcast, Dr. Spickard and James are interviewed by JfL’s Shay Bethea, Director of Network Relationships, and Byron McMillan, Director of Content and Training. It is the heart of both Shay and Byron to equip the church through training and coaching around issues that happen in and through Jobs for Life classes. This insightful podcast will shed light on how we, as the Church, can address addiction. The first step, as this podcast outlines, is understanding the impact on individuals both medically and spiritually to gain a better perspective of the recovery process.
This is part one of a series of 2 podcasts where James and Dr. Spickard share their hearts and minds. James is especially open and honest about his journey to give hope to family members struggling with helping loved ones through this process. As he says, “I don’t know anyone in any family who doesn’t know someone struggling with addiction.” This is a topic we all can learn more about.
