When Penny Thornton arrived at the Jobs for Life class at Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, those leading the class described her as meek, shy, and carrying a tremendous load. At that time, she lived at the Salvation Army with her two sons and it was evident she had a heart of gold but no one had ever told her how wonderful she was.
As the class progressed, you could see confidence and assurance coming out of her. By the end, her classmates looked up to her as she became the class leader keeping everyone upbeat. Today, she is working as a hostess at Chick-fil-A, teaching Sunday school, has her own place to live with her children, and taking classes at Wake Tech. According to the owner of the Chick-fil-A where she works, “Penny is the bright spot in all of our days.”
