Knox Christian Men's Job Corps

On August 10th of this year we graduated 5 men from the Knox Christian Men's Job Corps, A Hand Off For Men. This was our inaugural class and we are proud of the progress of our students. The curriculum we chose to use was the Jobs For Life material. This training was just what our men needed. These men were either homeless or in prison just a few short months before beginning the Job Corps and lacked essential skills that many of us take for granted.
 They learned how to properly fill out an application, how to create a resume, how to “sell” themselves during a job interview, how to add value to themselves as potential employees and many other valuable skills to prepare them to obtain not a job but rather a career in which they can thrive. They learned that they were created to work and that work is honorable. Through the Career Assessment, they learned what particular career paths they may wish to pursue as their “dream job” because they already had an interest and an aptitude for that career.
One of our students just received his Commercial Driver’s License and will soon start his dream job of driving a truck. Another has been hired by a local company and has started down his career path in public transportation. A third student has moved into caring for mentally challenged clients in a local, faith based, homeless ministry. Our final two students are still striving toward their ultimate dream jobs.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Jobs For Life curriculum to any organization searching for a program to help prepare their clients for a rewarding career.
