Endorses Jobs for Life
CEO Fortson urges men toward
effective mentoring, job training
Denver, Colo., December
7, 2005
Promise Keepers (PK), the international
ministry to men, announced today its endorsement of Jobs
for Life (JfL), whose faith-based
job-training program is yielding important results around
the U.S.
“As a Christian ministry to men, Promise Keepers works
daily in the arena of marketplace ministry,” said
Dr. Tom Fortson, president and CEO of Promise Keepers. “Economic
empowerment is a tangible expression of God’s love
and care for us. Our fathers need a means of supporting
their family, and men need the validation that comes with
getting paid for a hard day’s work.”
Central to the Jobs for Life training sessions is the support
of mentors who provide support, guidance and encouragement
through training and the first year of employment. That’s
where Promise Keepers comes in.
“Jobs for Life is an effective way to connect men,
churches and local organizations to men who need practical
support. Jobs for Life offers a tested and proven tool that
empowers men for success. This is a faith-based work at
its finest. Mentoring and job training are critical, spiritual
work,” said Fortson.
“As the nagging trials of poverty plague our cities,
Promise Keepers men and their churches, clubs and associations
can step up and make a long-term, strategic difference in
the lives of unemployed and under-employed men. I believe
Jobs for Life is a winning strategy. Promise Keepers men
will also be pleasantly surprised to find out how invigorating
the work of mentoring can be for one’s own profession
and daily work.”
In 24 cities and 17 states, Jobs for Life sites in churches,
shelters, missions, prisons, and low-income housing areas
offer a 16-session training course. Topics include: overcoming
roadblocks, taking responsibility, perseverance, integrity,
conflict resolution, communication skills, job search techniques,
developing a vocational plan and customer satisfaction.
Jobs for Life is a non-profit organization which has enabled
more than 2,500 people to obtain well-paying, self-sustaining
employment since its founding in 1998 as National Jobs Partnership.
Over 80% of JfL students remain employed at least one year
after graduation. To build or strengthen a jobs program,
churches and organizations can find out more at the official
Jobs for Life website: www.jobsforlife.com.

2005 marks Promise Keepers’ 15th year of ministry
to men. More than 176,600 men attended men’s conferences
held around the U.S. in 2005. Its mission is to ignite and
unite men to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ

in 1990.
Promise Keepers’ community projects have rebuilt and
restored churches, convened community-wide reconciliation
meetings, coordinated a pilot urban mentoring program, produced
prison-based men’s events, and raised hundreds of
