As Penny Thornton sends her son off to school, she thinks about where she is and where she wants to go.

She and her two children currently live at the Salvation Army in downtown Raleigh, but Thornton has plans. "Wanting something more, right now I’m a waitress but I want a career,” Penny said.

She loves her job at Frank's Pizza but enrolled in "Jobs for Life" to learn the skills she needed to turn her life around.
