Changing Lives: Victory Assembly of God, Tucson, AZ
August 5, 2007
Written by Cynthia Palmer, JfL Site Leader - The most amazing thing happened this last week. I got a high alert call from one of our JfL champions who comes to every class. She drove home a Jobs for Life student who had an urgent need to get money for her electric and cell phone bills or both services would be turned off.
After discussing her situation, the champion and another JfL volunteer figured out a way to get the money for this student. They also created a plan for her to pay them back through cleaning a few houses. When the JfL student arrived to class Monday, she had a new lease on life and such peace knowing that God had stepped in to meet her needs.
After Monday's class, I realized she had the perfect qualifications for a position made known to us by one of our new Jobs for Life Businesss Partners, Elderhaven, an assisted living facility. That week, she called Elderhaven, the owner took her to lunch, and invited her to come as a volunteer Wednesday night to see if she could handle the overnight shift. She had a wonderful experience and was hired the next day! When the company leaders discussed her schedule with her, they told her they would give her time off, so she could complete Jobs for Life, as they felt it was very important for her.
The Lord certainly has exceeded all expectations. This student will now work in the foothills, on five acres of land, with a panoramic view of the mountains, caring for precious senior citizens. She feels so blessed, and so do I to be a part of what God is doing! This is only just the beginning~
